Etta James – Gastric Bypass Surgery

Etta James was one of the most remarkable female souls in the 60’s because of her prominent hits The Wallflower, At Last, and Tell Mama. It was said that the soul singer, Etta James, at one point hit a worrying 400-pound weight. She was often seen in a wheelchair and her large body frame stopped her from performing during that period. She then took the advice of fellow star, Roseanne Barr, to go through gastric bypass surgery. But it was not easy for the soul legend. Reports claim that Etta James had to go through more than 2000 procedures. Following the surgery, the singer lost more than 200 pounds.

Years after, James got dementia and leukemia and was in and out of the hospital. Her mental incompetence sparked a family feud over the control of her bank accounts. It was reported that she signed a Power of Attorney for her son, Donto James, which was opposed by her husband, Artis Mills. The iconic soul singer Etta James died before her 74th birthday in 2012 after her battle with cancer.
